Reblogging this for my own reference because someday I’ll need to explain in-comic my belief on quadrants.
Which is that each of the quadrant emotions really DOES have separate and equal rate.
Which includes the existence of—such as above—passionate pale feelings which are every bit as strong and romantic and obsessive and all that as passionate flushed or caliginous feelings.
Ψiioniic above is a good example. He has fallen in flushed love and fallen in hate just like any other troll, and just as strongly and deeply. But the strongest and deepest and most passionate and obsessive feelings he’s ever had have been pale love.
Casually doesn’t explain why Ψiioniic is chatting on a roleplay account called “jeguskryst”
It’s probably just retconning/not something that was intentional but nobody should feel bad about the blood colors they gave their trolls, all things considered. (The top one is closer to Fef’s color than Aradia’s!)
Who says all available lusus species have the exact same blood color as trolls?
Maybe there are lusus species that have different blood colors and just choose the nearest colors.
Maybe some of the “lusus” species that Eridan hunts are wild animals/not-really-lusi that don’t adopt trolls at all.
Just playing devil’s advocate; I’d actually rather there be many more than 13 colors. I’m just saying this doesn’t necessarily contradict it.
i was thinking earlier that perhaps trolls don’t view the word “fuck” in the same was as humans do and therefore it’s meaning co-notates something more.
we know that the ♋ symbol in fact stands for “nothing”, thus having a revealed meaning deeper than the other symbols. we also know that the followers of the signless (i.e. redglare) wore the symbol of nothing to show that they in fact follow(ed) him; it was a symbol not of him but one of respect for the suffering he went though. much like how christians wear a cross.
can we then consider that “fuck”, known as “the vast expletive”, might be then considered to trolls as saying “jesus christ” is to christians. i noticed that (aside from karkat) it’s mostly highbloods that use “fuck”.
would using “fuck” be then the same as “taking the lord’s name in vain”, showing that rather than respect the signless’ loss hope for troll kin, one wishes to mock it or take light of it.
however you’ll notice that sollux is in fact the third largest user of “fuck” throughout the comic, leading me to believe that after being taken by the condesce, the psionic lost his own hope for the teachings of the signless
.
not including any chats in the interactive games, i’ve linked for you each pesterlog that has said character using the word “fuck” and the number of times in said pesterlog they’ve said it (including of course room for error):
Reblogging because HOLY SHIT YOU TALLIED UP HOW OFTEN EACH TROLL SAYS FUCK?
WOW.
WOW.
WOW.
I AM IN AWE.
Of course, some of the disproportionateness of it might have to do with how often the trolls are featured. Karkat’s got the highest score but we’ve also had more logs with Karkat than nearly all of the other trolls. (I think Vriska’s had a bit more, maybe?)
The second-highest F-bomber is Eridan, but he’s also got far fewer conversations than Karkat. So we can’t conclusively say that Karkat cusses more than Eridan.
To accurately determine proportionally which parts of the hemospectrum use the most fucks, someone would have to determine not just how many times each character says “fuck,” but also how frequent its usage is relative to their total dialogue.
(Would be tempted if it weren’t 4 a.m.)
… Small note: I don’t think the sym69l stands for “nothing.” It’s the shape of the irons the Sufferer wore on the flogging jut and was adapted from that. Which means its meaning is not “nothing,” but yeah, it IS def. a sign of respect for the suffering the Sufferer went through.
Now this is cool. I’d like to see the submitter’s headcanon for what the other symbols are. =w= But Troll Charlie Chaplin, a Rustblood? Surely you jest! =w=
Hey, talent knows no blood color. :P
I don’t have a direct headcanon for the other symbols, although I suspect they’d be things that would, to the viewer, obviously imply certain things even if they didn’t recognize the exact symbol: like, rustbloods get a down arrow with two bars across it; a Subjugglator character would get an up arrow with two bars across it; a green blood at the middle of the hemospectrum might get two concentric circles (to look like a “target” or a “bull’s eye,” to imply that they’re in the middle); etc. Sea dweller characters may not even need symbols, since you’d be able to tell from their fins what their caste is.
But I don’t really have any specific headcanons on WHAT the symbols are, just a general idea for HOW they work: the symbols should be consistent from movie to movie, and should evidently imply different castes, even to a viewer who’s never seen the Hollywood symbols before.
In any case, I don’t think that Charlie Chaplin himself is necessarily a rust blood. Only that the *characters* he played seem like rust blood characters; his primary character type is a down-on-his-luck tramp, which is more fitting for a rustblood character. Since the movie’s black and white, you can’t tell the actor’s blood color anyway.
My headcanon is that humans that are “made into” trolls—like Troll Will Smith, etc.—have blood colors that correspond to their original zodiac signs. Since Charlie Chaplin was born April 16, he’s an Aries, so coincidentally (at least in my headcanon) Troll Charlie Chaplin IS a rust blood. But the actor himself could have actually been any blood color, he just plays lowblood characters in movies.
To your first headcanon, I like it, maybe let’s go with that; to your second headcanon, I like it as well and it fits in quite well with something I...
